By entering the Tourism Online Academy (“TOA”) platform you acknowledge and agree to the following TOA Terms of Use. TOA is an online platform created by the World Tourism Organization (“UNWTO”) and IE University (“IE”) as an initiative to provide contents and courses focused on general management and on tourism, hospitality and destination management industries by UNWTO, IEU, and other academic institutions and course providers.
UNWTO is a specialized agency of the United Nations and the leading public international organization in the field of tourism, with a membership encompassing 164 countries and territories and more than 500 Affiliate Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities.
IE, having its registered address at Spain, Cardenal Zuñiga 12, Segovia, and with the tax identification number CIF G-40155384, is an international higher education institution whose corporate purpose is providing programmes as well as investigating, analyzing and supporting new tendencies arising in the business community.
License of Use
You must register and provide TOA with accurate and complete information in order to access the platform. Your personal information must be kept up to date. TOA will provide you with a personal, limited, non-exclusive license of use, subject to these Terms of Use and to our policies (including, but not limited to this website´s Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy and the specific requirements set out for the corresponding programmes). Your license of use cannot be used for any commercial or revenue-generating uses, and may be cancelled by TOA if needed by any cause under this Terms of Use or any of our policies, without prior notification to you.
TOA´s Programmes and Payment
Each TOA Program may include:
- A MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), associated to a MOOC Completion Certificate; and, only after the successful completion of the aforementioned MOOC,
- An Online Certificate Program, grouped in specific modules, followed by a Final Test to obtain a Tourism Online Academy Certificate.
– MOOC:
MOOC videos and readings are free access, while the assignments, feedback and the possibility to get a MOOC Completion Certificate will require you to pay the corresponding fee. At the end of the MOOC, provided you have paid the fee associated and finished the MOOC, TOA will award the corresponding MOOC Completion Certificate.
You will have access to the MOOC content and the right to get the MOOC Completion Certificate for six (6) months after starting the MOOC. After that period, TOA reserves the right to cancel your aforementioned rights without giving you prior notice.
– Online Certificate Program:
Only those participants who previously obtained the MOOC Completion Certificate will have the right to enroll in the Online Certificate Program. Paying the corresponding Online Certificate Program fee includes access to the Online Certificate Program content and platform, as well as one attempt to take a Final Test to obtain the Tourism Online Academy Certificate. If you successfully pass the Final Test, you will have the right to receive the Tourism Online Academy Certificate, demonstrating that you have approved the Online Certificate Program.
If you fail the Final Test, you may re-take it after paying an additional, specific fee.
The Final Test must be taken within a period of six (6) months after the completion of the Online Certificate Program, or three (3) months after paying for a re-take attempt. You can take the Final Test a maximum of three (3) times, including the first attempt. After those three (3) attempts, you will lose the right to get the Tourism Online Academy Certificate, unless you enroll again in the Program and pays the corresponding fee again.
The participation in a TOA Program does not provide any university or academic credits, unless otherwise specifically stated in TOA´s platform for the specific program.
TOA reserves the right to cancel or modify a Program or its contents if any reason prevents it from being carried out in accordance with the goals and methodology established for the program.
TOA gives you the possibility to make any payment associated to the aforementioned services using a credit card through providers that perform the payment process through third parties. TOA´s service provider, not TOA, will collect and process your credit card information.
You may withdraw from a paid Program during the 14 days following its payment, without any kind of penalty, as long as you have not started the Program yet. You may exercise this right by sending an email to toa@ie.edu and may use the form available here, though its use is not compulsory. In case of withdraw, TOA will refund all amounts received within a maximum of fourteen natural days through the same means of payment used by you.
Ethical Behaviour
In case you decide to become a participant in a TOA Program, you must undertake to have a respectful and ethical behavior during all the Program, both in terms of your own training and your relation with the other participants, professors and the academic direction. You must complete your individual assignments and must not share information with the other participants, unless the nature of the task so requires. You also commit to participate actively in group activities if required to do so in the Program. In case you suspect that any other participant is plagiarizing, not doing the work by himself/herself or has an unethical behavior, TOA shall be informed by email toa@ie.edu.
You acknowledge that you do not own any intellectual property rights of the materials relating TOA´s programmes and you shall not use the documentation provided by TOA for any purpose other than your own education or training. You will not disclose to third parties any information known as a consequence of your participation in TOA´s platform and/or programmes, and you will not apprise third parties about your license of use. You will not include personally identifiable information or other information of a personal or confidential nature, whether related to you or with another person, in tasks, exams or surveys, except information required to participate or send such tasks, exams or surveys.
Plagiarism, disrespectful behavior or unethical conduct during the Program shall be considered cause for expulsion from the Program. Expulsion will entail the cancellation of your right to access the Program contents and platform and the loss of your right to get the corresponding certificate, provided that a certificate was granted.
Jurisdiction and Applicable Law
Segovia (Spain) shall be considered the place of celebration of this contract. This contract shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the law of Spain. You hereby expressly submit to the jurisdiction of the courts and tribunals of the city of Segovia.
Data Protection
The personal data provided through the registration process and the courses, will be processed by IE UNIVERSITY (“IE”) as well as by third parties, even if they are outside the European Economic Area (EEA), as data processors, with whom IE has collaboration agreements, in order to be able to provide the services derived from the present contractual relationship.
Who is the data controller?
Your data will be processed by IE UNIVERSITY (IE) during your relationship with the institution.

For what purposes and for how long will we process your personal data?
The main purpose of the processing of your data is the provision of the educational services and the management of the activities and services related to it.
Also, if you consent, your data will be processed to provide you with personalized commercial information, by traditional or electronic means (such as emails, social media, messaging systems and others), based on profiles obtained even by third parties.
We will keep your data as long as it is necessary for the aforementioned purposes and until the duration of the statute of limitation period for possible legal liabilities is completed.
Nonetheless the above mentioned, academic record will be kept indefinitely.
Which is the lawfulness of the processing and what data do we collect?
The data given is mandatory in order to provide the educational service applying TOA´s teaching methodologies, and manage the activities and services related to it, otherwise TOA would not be able to provide the services. As to the processing carried out for the evaluation and improvement of the quality of our educational programs, as well as of the institution in general, the lawfulness is based on the legitimate interest of the data controller.
On the other hand, the processing of your data for marketing and profiling purposes is based on the consent given, which you can withdraw at any time. However, in the case of withdrawal of consent, this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out previously.
The data we process may include all or some of the following categories depending on the activities and / or services you have requested: identifying data, contact data, personal characteristics data, IP address, employment data, economic/ financial data.
We may collect and share certain information that you generate in the teaching process, such as tasks sent by you, tasks evaluated by classmates and comments from peer evaluations. We may also collect and share information about the program, such as responses to the questionnaires that appear in the videos, individual questionnaires, exams and surveys.
To whom will your data be communicated?
Required data may be communicated to:
- Instituto de Empresa, S.L., Editorial IE and other IE Group companies, as well as third parties in charge of the processing, with whom IEU has signed collaboration agreements for the fulfillment of the aforementioned purposes.
- Other academic institutions and course providers with whom IEU has signed agreements for the provision of contents directed at specific segments of the Travel and Tourism Sector.
- Banks and financial entities.
- Public Administrations, in the cases stated by law.
- Companies specialized in the evaluation of higher education schools and / or universities in order to make evaluations and rankings.
- Others
These communications may be addressed to entities located outside the EEA, which would imply an international transfer of data.
Which are your rights?
You can send a letter to soportededatos@ie.edu , enclosing a photocopy of your identity document, in order to exercise, at any moment and for free, any of the following rights:
- Revoke the consents granted.
- Confirm about whether IE is processing your personal data.
- Access your personal data.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request the erasure of your data when, among other reasons, the data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected in the first place.
- Obtain from IEU the restriction of the processing if any of the conditions stipulated in the data protection regulation is fulfilled.
- Object to the processing of your data. In these cases, IE will stop processing your data, except for compelling legitimate reasons, or in order to exercise or defend from possible claims.
- Request the portability of your data.
Finally, you may lodge a complaint to the Spanish Agency for Data Protection, at the address indicated by it at any time, if you consider that IE has violated the rights which are recognized by the applicable data protection regulation.
