This course equips tourism researchers and practitioners, AI and chatbot developers, and policymakers with the skills to design chatbots that deliver digital nudges to address behavioral biases and promote responsible tourism practices. Participants will learn to leverage AI and chatbots for interventions that encourage responsible behavior, exploring behavioral economics, cognitive biases, and digital nudging. It includes practical training on creating chatbot surveys and custom AI assistants using platforms such as ChatGPT. The course will also cover ethical considerations for digital nudging such as respecting user privacy, ensuring transparency, and avoiding manipulation as well as the future of AI and responsible digital nudging.
What will you learn in this program?
In this course, learners will explore how to leverage AI and chatbots to implement digital nudging interventions that promote responsible tourist behavior. The course includes understanding behavioral economics, cognitive biases, and the effectiveness of digital nudging. Participants will learn about the AI4GoodTourism Framework and the role of chatbots in delivering digital nudges. The course also covers creating chatbots and crafting effective dialogues for digital nudging. Ethical considerations, such as respecting user privacy, ensuring transparency, and avoiding manipulation, will be emphasized. Additionally, learners will explore upcoming trends in AI, chatbots, and behavioral design, equipping them with cutting-edge knowledge in this evolving field.

Meet our instructors

Professor of Intelligent System in Service, University of Surrey, UK
Iis Tussyadiah conducts research on digital transformation in the services sector, focusing on human-computer interaction, consumer behaviour, and management. She investigates the applications and implications of artificial intelligence and is an advocate of utilising technology to forge new pathways to a better future. Her current work covers human-AI teaming and the future of work, digital nudging, and the development of sociotechnical systems for sustainability transitions.

PhD Researcher, University of Surrey, UK
Gilang Majid’s research interests cover technology and sustainability, specifically how artificial intelligence can be used to nudge people to behave environmentally friendly. He earned his master’s in Southeast Asian Studies from Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany. In addition to tourism, he conducts research on various social issues in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.

Senior Lecturer in Experience Economy, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Finland
Aarni Tuomi is particularly interested in using emerging technologies to improve and increase human capabilities in service business contexts. His research has explored e.g. digital labour platforms, service robotics, artificial intelligence, UX design, service innovation, immersive technologies (XR, AR, VR) and food technology, e.g. cellular agriculture and ghost kitchens.
