The “Scientific Heritage and Tourism” course explores the intersection between scientific advancements and their impact on global tourism. This collaborative project between the University of Sharjah’s College of Communication and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) delves into how scientific discoveries, historical innovations, and technological advancements shape tourism industries worldwide. Students will gain insights into the role of scientific heritage in fostering cultural understanding, preserving scientific landmarks, and promoting sustainable tourism practices. The course will feature diverse perspectives from both institutions, offering a unique comparative study of how scientific heritage is valued and promoted in different regions. This course will consist of a summary of each module and a short quiz. You must earn 60% or higher to earn your certificate (when applicable).

Meet our instructors
Professor Dr. Maamoun Saleh Abdulkarim is a distinguished academic specializing in archaeology and history, with a focus on the Roman and early Byzantine periods. He currently serves as a Professor and Vice-Dean at the University of Sharjah's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Nidal Mohammed Alzboun is an Associate Professor specializing in Tourism Management at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He also holds a position at the University of Jordan, reflecting his active engagement in both academic institutions.
Dr. Driselda Patricia Sánchez-Aguirre is a Mexican academic specializing in tourism, cultural heritage, and geotourism. She currently serves as an Associate Career Professor at the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias de la Tierra, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a position she has held since May 2024.
Dr. Jahzeel Aguilera Lara is a Mexican researcher specializing in cultural and historical geography, with a focus on environmental history and indigenous landscapes. Born on June 18, 1992, in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, she pursued her higher education at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
Mishelle Muñoz is a professional engaged in the cultural sector, with a focus on tourism and heritage. She is associated with "Pasaporte Cultural," an organization dedicated to cultural promotion and the creative industries. In November 2024, she participated in a conference titled "Administración y Autogestión" alongside Colectiva Fortissimas, where discussions centered on the development of the Amparo Ochoa law and the importance of gender quotas in music through public policies.
Dr. Reyhan Sabri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. She earned her Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Manchester, UK. Her research focuses on architectural conservation, heritage management, and the history and theory of architecture.
Professor and chair of the Department of History and Islamic Civilization at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. He is also the director of SIFHAMS (Sharjah Institute for Future Heritage and Museum Studies).
